Nutrition Education Database for Programs in Pennsylvania
The PA NEN is developing a nutrition education database. Our goal is to create a web-based, state-wide database listing organizations that are currently involved in nutrition education applicable to low-income families in Pennsylvania. This database will provide at-a-glance information that can be used to find educational programs in specific locations. It will also be utilized to locate gaps in services and to reveal agencies that could be linked together to more efficiently provide service to those in need.
To be included in the database, one major component of a program must be provided at no cost to participants. The programs must also adhere to the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPyramid.
This program data will be searchable by county, target audience, program components and program goals. A mapping function will be included to illustrate the distribution of specific nutrition education activities across the state. Thirty-three maps will be searchable by program components, program goals, target audience (including those that target the food stamp population) and programs that receive PA TRACKS funding.
The database will soon be launched on the members-only portion of our website. Stay tuned for more details!
