Food Stamp Nutrition Education Information and Resource Packets
Many low-income households find it difficult to eat nutritiously. While they are often receptive to more information about nutrition education, many households are not aware of the resources that provide this education.
In order to raise awareness of nutrition education opportunities and supplemental nutrition programs, the PA Nutrition Education Network (PA NEN) prepared a nutrition education resource booklet to be delivered by DPW county assistance office staff to food stamp eligible heads of households. The booklets contain the following elements:
o Nutrition messages relating the health benefits of fruit and vegetable consumption.
o Descriptions of nutrition education opportunities offered by tracks and contact information for tracks offices providing nutrition education to adult household members.
o Descriptions of supplemental nutrition programs funded by the USDA together with contact information that may be used to obtain additional information.
